  1. I just finished writing my position paper and the topic of my position paper was whether or not schools should go year round. The position that I took was that they should in fact go year round. I am not going to go into detail as to why because all of that is in my paper and if you are interested as to why I took that position, then you should read my paper(: This is interesting because during Christams I was actually talking to my aunt about this topic and thats what sparked my interest in writing my paper over this topic.

  2. I'm in the process of writing my paper now! My position paper is on homework and if it is harmful or helpful! Like Ryan said I don't want to get into to much detail about it but if interested please read my paper once uploaded. I in fact am write how homework is harmful. I thought I could do a twist because all the papers done I have seen or that it is helpful so I went opposite. While writing however im starting to agree it is harmful!

    1. I'm glad that you are writing about how it is harmful, I chose the opposite. Although, in my personal opinion from a combination of experience and research I side with a combination of beneficial and harmful.

    2. For your paper, did you include much research? I found that when I did my research that much of it was inconclusive toward the link between the amount of homework that students do and their academic success (when you factor in all grades) but when you are looking at the information for older children, the more homework they do the better they do (to a point). Even after finding research on many of the held positions by oft cited people, I decided to use other resources that tried to incorporate both sides of the debate, even if they chose a side.

  3. I have finished my paper and I am really surprised by the research I found. My topic was textbooks vs. digital devices. I wanted to do this topic because when I was in EDU 230 at Moberly College, I observed the use of iPads in the classroom and found that iPads were good, but not as a substitute for textbooks. In a special education class I saw how great iPads were by motivating students to learn as a reward device. However, in an Elementary class the iPads were used as a fill in for the teacher and textbooks, which I found not to be the best way for students to learn. My research backed up my original thought about how iPads were only really good in small uses, but not as the main device for learning in a classroom. My position paper has more of the research that was done in two different schools that back up my position. I hope everyone enjoys the paper and I look forward to reading everyone position papers as well.

I am focusing my position paper on extracurricular activities.
There are people who do not like the idea of schools having extracurricular activities. Some prefers school to just focus on education in the classroom, while some appreciates the extra activities school organize, for instance, a debate tournament, a sports week, and so on. For some, the money schools have to spend on to conduct such an activity is not worth it, as it does not bring enough fruition. For others, these activities give a chance for students to discover their abilities.
I believe in extracurricular activities, as, in my opinion, it is a place for students to discover their hidden talents. Not everybody is going to be a book smart, or are going to get a desk-job. So, students need to know what they are good at while they have no responsibilities outside school. Participating in extracurricular activities is one was to find out a hidden skill one might have.
