As you all begin work on your professional websites, take a few minutes to look at the student examples in Moodle, but also google various people you know who are teaching OR get onto some schools you're familiar with and look at teacher websites. I have an author website you're welcome to look at (www.barrilbumgarner.com), and I'm also building my own teacher website as well!
:-)
Have fun with them! It's something you'll actually use!
I think a web presence is important for a couple of reasons. First off, most resumes are done online now instead of hard copy so that is one reason why teachers need a web presence. Secondly, it shows professionalism and it shows that you are serious about whatever you are doing. Having a web presence also allows you to connect to other teachers which is always a benefit. Lastly, having a web presence might get someone a job because it shows that you know how to use technology and because everything is technology based nowadays, being technologically literate might get you a job.
ReplyDeleteI believe it is important for a teacher and future teacher to have web presence because our world is becoming more technological. Web presence takes time and effort, teacher who put forth this effort show how much they may want the job or how much they are willing to work. Many people know use the web as a tool in finding new business or even searching people. Having a web presence shows all the information in one spot that people may be looking for before hiring.
ReplyDeleteAnd quite frankly, almost ALL teachers communicate with parents via a class website. So it's important to not only have a web presence but update it regularly. And use good grammar...I'm not a stickler on that here, but being aware of what you post on the web is important. You are displaying your skills every time you send something into cyberspace. Because you can't edit it once it's out there (except on an official website). That's what is great about these websites you're creating on Weebly...you CAN edit them continually, even after you publish them!
ReplyDeleteIn this day in age, technology and the internet are used constantly. It is important to have a web presence because that is most likely the first interaction a future employer will have with you as an applicant. Having a professional website is awesome because not only will the employer get to know you a little better, it accompanies great next to a resume and application. Not every applicant will have a professional website, so this could set you aside from everyone else. It is always important to keep your web presence (including your personal social media profiles) positive and professional. You may not think people are paying attention, but they are. It would be awful to not get a job because of something you thoughtlessly posted on Twitter or Facebook.
ReplyDeleteTeachers and future teachers should have professional websites because it allows the community and world to know more about that person/teacher. Having a webpage also allows future employers to get to know the teacher they are about to hire. Having information out there along with experiences and philosophy can boost a persons chance to get a teaching position. I have always loved doing investigation and research on the web when I need to know something about a subject, organization and people. Having information on the web is a quick and easy resource that is readily available to anyone.
ReplyDeleteHaving a professional website serves a variety of purposes including starting/polishing the person's online presence. A person with an online presence is marketing their communication skills (something that ALL teachers need to develop). A professional website is also a great way to showcase a teacher's philosophy, accomplishments, creatvity, and technological savy. Using the internet and developing technologies is no longer something that "nerds/geeks" do. It is a staple of communication. With an online presence, someone can look you up and find information about you just as you would about a company you are potentially looking to be hired by. I can google just about anyone I am looking for to find information before I meet with them for an interview. By doing this research beforehand, I am saving time later determining if the company/person etc. is truely compatable with my personality and goals/beliefs. If nothing else, an online presence is a virtual resume and your personal source of PR to get you noticed. It is a digital business card and can say more about you than a simple telephone call can. Also, if I am an employer and am looking for a certain set of qualifications, it also makes my job a bit easier to be paired with someone who is through and qualified for the position I am offering.
ReplyDeleteWe living in a very fast moving world where technological advancements are keep on improving every day. Therefore, I think it is important for future teacher to have a web presence in order to be communicating with students constantly. Communication on the web is one of the most comfortable and convenient ways for the student to contact the teacher and vice versa. It also definitely increases the chance of getting a job. Millions of people are searching on the web every day; therefore you never know who might come across your website and get interested in your experiences.

Internet has become a huge part of our lives today. In my opinion, it is important for teachers to be friendlier with the internet and have a good web presence. Students often feel more comfortable expressing themselves on web than in classroom. A teacher can know more about his/her students if the class have a web-focus.
Moreover, a good we presence would help teachers get a job or to improve their chances of getting a job, as lot of head-hunters use internet to find a good candidate to hire. It is an easy for them to find the current and past work of their potential candidates.
